🐾 The Ultimate Guide to Cabapoo Health & Nutrition

Cavapoos are known for their loving nature, soft curls, and adorable puppy eyes—but behind all that cuteness is a dog who thrives on good health and proper nutrition. Whether you’re a new cavapoo parent or a seasoned pup pro, here’s everything you need to know to keep your fluffy bestie in tip-top shape!

🥩 What Should a Cavapoo Eat?

Your cavapoo’s diet should be rich in:

  • High-quality protein – Look for real meat like chicken, turkey, beef, or fish listed as the first ingredient in their food.

  • Healthy fats – Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids help maintain their soft, shiny coat and support brain and joint health.

  • Complex carbs – Sweet potatoes, brown rice, and oats are great for energy without causing sugar spikes.

  • Fruits & veggies – Blueberries, spinach, carrots, and pumpkin are full of vitamins and antioxidants.

🛑 Avoid: Corn, soy, artificial preservatives, and meat by-products. These are fillers that don’t do your cabapoo any favors.

🐶 How Much Should You Feed a Cabapoo?

Cavapoos are small to medium-sized dogs and can be prone to weight gain if overfed. Here's a rough daily guide:

  • Puppies (8 weeks–1 year): 3–4 small meals a day

  • Adults (1–7 years): 2 meals a day

  • Seniors (7+ years): 2 smaller meals a day with lower fat content

Always check the feeding guidelines on your dog food label, and adjust based on your dog’s activity level, age, and weight. If you're unsure, your vet can help you tailor a feeding plan.

💦 Hydration Matters

Don’t forget water! A fresh, clean bowl of water should always be available. Cavapoos are active and playful—especially as puppies—and they need to stay hydrated.

🦴 Healthy Snacks & Treats (That Won’t Pack on the Pounds)

Treats are a great way to train and bond, but too many can lead to extra fluff around the belly. Here are some healthy treat options:

  • Baby carrots

  • Apple slices (no seeds!)

  • Green beans

  • Dehydrated sweet potato chews

  • Freeze-dried liver treats (use sparingly)

👉 Rule of paw: Treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s daily caloric intake

💩 Tummy Troubles: What to Watch For

Cavapoos can have sensitive stomachs. If you notice any of the following, it might be time to switch foods or visit the vet:

  • Frequent gas or diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Itchy skin or chronic ear infections (could be a food allergy)

  • Refusal to eat or lack of energy

If switching foods, do it gradually over 7–10 days to avoid upsetting their tummy.

🧬 Supplements: Are They Necessary?

Some cavapoos benefit from supplements, especially if they have joint issues or allergies. Ask your vet about:

  • Probiotics for gut health

  • Glucosamine & Chondroitin for joint support

  • Fish oil for skin, coat, and brain function

🐕‍🦺 A Healthy Cavapoo is a Happy Cavapoo

By paying attention to what goes into your dog’s bowl, you’re helping them live a longer, happier life full of tail wags and couch cuddles.
